After a very long winter, and a cold rainy spring, as I look around,
I see evidence that summer is on the way.
Here are a few signs around my yard.

There have been four pairs of geese with their goslings nibbling
at the dandelions along the edge of my yard since Mother’s Day.
There are 16 -20 goslings between them.

My rhubarb is flourishing!

This moose has been a frequent visitor to my yard the last two years. The other day my dear husband caught him eating our apple trees. He was not happy. Last year he was into the plums.
This year the apple blossoms seem to be his fancy.

My mint patch! Good for our summer drinking!

While on a ride in the mountains, we came upon a doe and two fawns. The mother and one fawn ran away, but this little guy just dropped to the ground, not sure what to do.
He stayed put for quite a while, then ran off to find his family.

This Red-breasted Grosbeak is a welcome sight at my bird feeder!
Asparagus my dear husband picked on our river bank this morning!
Asparagus for supper tonight. . . Yummmmm!

Romalee,
ReplyDeleteI read your blog on occasion and marvel at your beautiful countryside but never dreamed of growing asparagus on the river bank, which brings me to why I am writing this. When I was 12-14 years old I work for a tomato farmer and an asparagus farmer. The tomato farmer paid us daily and would buy us ice cream from time to time, he paid us min wage, about 75cents an hour. The asparagus farmer paid us 2 cents a pound but always weighed our pickings when we were there and would pay us the next day. Being as young and DUMB as we were we didn't thnk about being cheated until his wife was there one day and weighed our basket, to our surprise we made almost three times as much as previous days. That is when we realized that we had been "taken". I'm not sure how much he made from us but I do know we never picked another pound. Anyway I enjoy reading your views from time to time.
